Yoga or Pilates has become the source of meditation that many people practice.  Both types of meditation have helped people to achieve a state of peacefulness and tranquility.  If Yoga or Pilates is not your cup of tea, there is another option of meditation to try and to practice for the same effects.

Buddhist Meditation is a type of meditation that has been around for longer than Yoga or Pilates.  It started back in the sixth century by a man named Buddha Siddhartha Gautama, thus where the name also came from.

Buddhist Meditation techniques vary widely as there are over 90 different methods that one can encounter. The overall synopsis of Buddhist meditation includes concentration, tranquility, mindfulness, and insight. One first needs to decipher what particular technique they want to master prior to starting Buddhist meditation.

Buddhist Meditation comes from the Noble Truths in the Buddhist religion.  There are eight Noble Truths in the Buddhist Religion and Buddhist Meditation focuses on the fourth one: the truth of the mind.  Buddhism teaches that the mind is what controls and centers human existence and that by calming your mind one can find peace and tranquility.  Mind exercises are what Buddhist Meditation is designed around and you can come to find insight about yourself.

Concentration is one of the focuses of Buddhist Meditation.  In this state, one meditates and concentrates on the body.  Focusing on breathing and on posture is the first step in the concentration exercises.  Imagine that a string is being pulled from the top of your head through the tips of your toes and how that would feel in your body.  As we focus on the body, Buddhist Meditation makes us more aware of things such as self-repulsiveness of the body and even of death of the body.

Concentration may not be the one part of Buddhist Meditation that you feel is the most beneficial for you.  You may need to focus on tranquility or insight to really reach your Buddhist state of happiness.  As a follower of Buddhist Meditation, you will need to experiment and try all of the different methods to see what brings you the most peace.

Medical professionals have found that whatever method of Buddhist Meditation you decide to practice, you will physically and psychologically be healthier.  It helps to relieve stress and to help you open up your mind to all the positive side of things in this world.

It is strongly encouraged that you learn as much about Buddhist Meditation as possible as well as Yoga and Pilates before making a decision about which is the most beneficial for you.  Whatever choice you make, make certain that it is one that helps you reach your state of tranquility and peace.
